Client: Austin Tec

Year: 2015

General background

"Austin Technology" is a company that specializes in the development of segway products and extreme accessories for the international market. The new technology is being developed for their Mono Willow wheels which givethem better stability and grip in various conditions. The use of sensitive motion sensors that distribute the rider's weight evenly; make the riding experience intuitive, safe, fast and with longer ride times unlike the competitors in the market.

Design process

The design process is an holistic process that intensifies into an experience that pushes us to be bold and to examine the feeling of riding ourselves on the initial prototypes. We set out on a research trip around the city - we studied the changing terrain conditions while getting into the potential customer's shoes for his daily routine, knowing that along the way we would discover a lot of important findings that would be expressed in making formal decisions for the object.

Form development

Mobility, comfort, and compactness were the keywords with which we set out on formal development. The decisions about the structures of the barrages and the location of the engineering components, stemmed from the sequence of conclusions we collected throughout the study. The handle's position at the back of the wheel allows a comfortable grip for carrying the object while walking. The main cross-section of the wheel was due to the negative space shape of the foot structures, as well as the choice of combining soft and hard materials in the contact areas making the riding experience more pleasant and safer. The front of the wheel allows the object to stand on the ground when it is not in use.

Visual DNA

Technological, fast, light and safe were the definitions on which we built the inspiration boards of the visual language out of a desire to express the wisdom hidden beneath the shells.
